Our Story
From shared struggles to building a movement for young creators.

Young creators have the potential to transform their lives and that of their communities sustainably through creative pursuits they can trust, grow, and earn from. Although technological advancements and smartphones have made it easier for many young creators to make content, and numerous initiatives now support them through programs and professional spaces, young creators still face significant challenges in accessing advanced equipment, safe and reliable platforms, skills, and the support needed to monetize their talents.

The creative "orange" economy accounts for an estimated 50 million jobs globally and employs more young people (15-29 years old) than any other sector, according to the World Bank 2023 report on Jobs & Development. In the midst of sharp and growing labor market challenges, especially among the youth and the vulnerable groups, the creative economy represents a promising avenue for more inclusive and sustainable growth.

Empower Studios~Africa grew out of experiences we lived through as young creators, making content with whatever tools we could find with little guidance. During our time as film and content students, many fellow creators knocked on our doors with ideas, trusting we understood the journey. The quiet frustration of having nothing to offer beyond encouragement, and watching too many young people with real potential give up because the support they needed simply wasn't there, sparked our desire to build Empower Studios~Africa: a space created by creators, for creators, where talent is nurtured, supported, and given a fair chance to thrive.
